Description
Many before have noted that one of the few things in life that is certain is change itself. Recently, a number of trends strongly suggest that the rate of change occurring in our society also can be estimated with some certainty. Perhaps this is nowhere more apparent than in the technological advances we learn of, attempt to master, and experience on a day-to-day basis. When these observations are considered in a historical context of societal development, it is apparent that we live today in a truly unique time of opportunity and challenge, a time of tremendous consequence. Furthermore, these observations suggest
that we will soon face scenarios only few have envisioned as possible.
This series of brief presentations and discussions aims to bring scholarship and Christian reflection together in the attempt to help us live reflectively and faithfully in the face of rapid technological change. Our discussions will consider the ramifications of technological change on human experience generally and on Christian faith specifically. In addition, we will explore how Christian faith and understanding have the potential to shape our responses to change and to prepare us for the changes that we will continue to face.
